Scope of Work
The Automotive Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and servicing of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The role includes preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, component replacement, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance according to maintenance schedules and manufacturer's recommendations.

Conduct routine inspections of vehicle systems and components.

Replace lubricants, filters, belts, hoses, and other wear-and-tear items.

Ensure vehicles remain in roadworthy and operational condition.
Corrective Maintenance & Repairs
-
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.

Repair or replace defective components and assemblies.
-
Carry out engine, transmission, suspension, steering, braking, and cooling system repairs.

Attend to vehicle breakdowns and emergency repair requests.
Vehicle Inspection
-
Perform pre-service and post-service inspections.

Identify defects and recommend corrective actions.
-
Conduct road tests where authorized to verify repairs and vehicle performance.
-
Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults.
-
Analyze fault codes and system performance data.
-
Determine root causes of failures and recommend solutions.
-
Escalate complex technical issues to supervisors when required.
Documentation & Reporting

Complete job cards, maintenance records, and inspection reports accurately.

Record parts usage, labor hours, and maintenance activities.Report major defects, recurring failures, and safety concerns promptly.

Update maintenance management systems as required.
Workshop Operations
-
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and serviceable condition.

Ensure proper handling and storage of parts, tools, and materials.

Support inventory checks and spare parts management.
-
Assist in workshop housekeeping activities.
Safety & Compliance
-
Follow workplace safety procedures and company policies.
-
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
-
Ensure safe handling of batteries, fuels, lubricants, and hazardous materials.

Comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Specialized Vehicle Maintenance (Ambulance / Fire-Fighting Vehicles)

Maintain emergency vehicle systems, including warning lights, sirens, communication systems, and auxiliary equipment.

Inspect and maintain auxiliary electrical systems and battery systems.
-
Ensure operational readiness of emergency response vehicles.
-
Support testing and commissioning after repairs and maintenance.
Authority
-
Carry out maintenance and repair activities assigned by supervisors.

Recommend replacement of defective components.
-
Stop work and report unsafe conditions immediately.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Vehicle availability and uptime.

Preventive maintenance completion rate.

Reporting Line
-
Reports to: Workshop Supervisor / Senior Mechanic / Maintenance Manager.

Works closely with: Technicians, Service Advisors, Fleet Coordinators, and Operations Personnel.
Qualifications & Skills

Relevant automotive technical certification.

Knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.

Ability to use diagnostic equipment and repair tools.

Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Ability to read technical manuals and service procedures.

Valid driving licence (preferred).
